RTP and volatility: two figures that describe a game but guarantee nothing

How to interpret RTP and volatility without treating them as a recipe for winning.

AT A GLANCE

How to interpret RTP and volatility without treating them as a recipe for winning.

RTP is a long-term statistic

RTP describes a theoretical return calculated over a very large number of plays. It does not predict the outcome of a single session and does not mean a specific amount will return to the player.

Volatility

Volatility describes the distribution of wins. Higher volatility usually means less frequent, potentially larger wins, while lower volatility means more frequent, usually smaller outcomes.

There is no risk-free winning strategy

Games of chance give the operator an edge and there is no RTP setting that removes the risk of loss. These parameters help explain the mechanics, not predict the result.

Treat gambling as an entertainment expense

Decide in advance how much you can spend on entertainment and do not increase it in an attempt to recover losses.
